Digital screens are popping up all over campus. Take advantage of this innovative space for sharing your messages with a broader audience.
Make your design stand out. Use striking on-brand graphics and large, bold text to share your message. If you need to include your departmental logo, use the shortcut. Please don’t use your social media icon for anything but social media.
Design with accessibility in mind! Digital signs should be readable quickly, at a distance, and from many angles. Remember that your image will typically be part of a slideshow of other images and graphics and will only be visible for a few seconds.
Make it readable. Make sure that text meets high contrast requirements and is large enough to read at a distance—by people who have great vision as well as those who do not. Use text sparingly to ensure that your message can be scanned quickly.
Make it interactive. Embed calls to action like short URLs or QR codes so interested readers can find more details (if needed) on your website.
Do your research. There are a variety of screen sizes around campus, so be aware of the width, height, and resolution you’re designing for before you get started. Be sure to reach out to sign owners to request space.
All images designed for display on digital screens or digital signage must meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, Level AA. For more information about the university’s accessibility requirements, visit Accessible Information, Materials, & Technology.
